Do you want to make a difference? Do you believe in a community where every person is empowered to grow, discover, and belong? We are seeking a Board Member to help us fulfill our mission, vision, and strategic plan. The Board Member is a voting member of the Board of Directors and accountable to the Board for the fulfillment of their duties. The Board Member has no authority to direct staff or take independent action on matters outside of duties below.

Who you are

We are looking for someone who can dive in, get to know our organization and provide governance as we grow and evolve. The Board Member is a voting member of the Board of Directors and is accountable to the Board for the fulfilment of their duties. You're a self-starter who can problem solve and prioritize, and you understand the importance of working with a diverse group of people with unique perspectives and experiences.

What you'll do

Responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to: 

  • Prepare for and participate in board meetings 

  • Listen to others’ views, advocate your own, identify common interests and alternatives 

  • Support the execution of the strategic plan to guide future decisions 

  • Assist with the review and approval of operational policies, as required 

  • Support governance decisions once made 

  • Abide by the bylaws, code of conduct and ATN policies that apply to the board 

  • Be an ambassador for ATN in the wider community

What experience you bring

The ideal candidate will have an appreciation for the level of financial information needed at the Board level to support decision-making. You will possess a post-secondary degree/diploma plus have a minimum of three (3) years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • You will be committed to ATN's mission, vision, and values and strategic planning

  • Have exceptional problem solving and analytic skills

  • Be organized, self-motivated, committed to quality, details and results-oriented

Time Commitment

This volunteer position requires 2 to 5 hours per month. The term of office is three years, with the possibility of renewal for two additional terms.
